Promoting Awareness and Appreciation of the Working Class

About Us

This website was founded in 2010 by Scot Patterson, a residential building contractor who lives and works in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Patterson enjoys doing research and writing, and he is a published author and public speaker. He is a long-standing advocate for the working class and launched this website to help people understand who we are and what we do.

Mission Statement

After working with my hands for more than twenty years, I discovered that I have a lot to say about that experience. I think it's important for me to share what I know about the working-class perspective because people who do physical work for a living are surprisingly silent. Perhaps they just need some encouragement to step forward and tell their stories.

The focus of this website is on the issues that unite the working class, not those that divide us. For this reason, religion and politics are not discussed here. By excluding these issues, our voices become stronger and our message more compelling.

Fortunately, there are many other advocates for the working class. In particular, I would like to acknowledge Mike Rowe for his instrumental role in promoting public awareness of what we do. His television series Dirty Jobs documents the dedication and true grit of working-class people who are not afraid to work hard and get dirty. Mike’s passion, intelligence, and quick sense of humor have made our jobs interesting and accessible to mainstream America. It is my pleasure to bestow upon Mr. Rowe the title of “Working-Class Public Relations Hero.”

This website is a soapbox for the working class. With time, I hope that others will join me in expressing their wisdom and their stories.
